Not all stories begin with “Once upon a time …” Sometimes, the story just sneaks up on you. You go to bed happy, but want to hide under the covers in the morning. You’re holding it all together, but someone says or does something that makes you lose your head. Or there’s a slow burn – that creeping, crawling feeling of fear, sadness, or hurt building in your body.
The next thing you know, instead of healthy action and “using your words” (like you teach the kids), you REACT! I Know Me gives you a better option.
“I Know Me introduces a conflict-free environment… offering students, and supporting teachers and parents, with a new language and skill set … students are encouraged to deal with healing rather than just dealing with conflict resolution.”
“As a retired school teacher, I would like to commend Karen for providing such a wonderful teaching resource. Not only is I Know Me ideal for children, it is also a wonderful resource for adults.”
“I Know Me is a great book for pre-teens and teens on bullying and coping with their emotional responses. It is an excellent book for adults to understand their negative feelings and how to diffuse them.”
Teo, Katie, Fang Hua and Jared,
all felt alone, uncertain and scared.
Their mums couldn’t help them, and nor could their dads,
whose own fears were hiding behind lots of pads.
Near someone kind, you may feel quite jolly;
mean actions, though, can leave knots in your belly.
For the energy of others will blend with your own,
just as yours will impact their energy home.
Buzzing, noisy, hyper sound?
Bright light bubble, slows it down.
Anger, rage, bully, shout?
Bright light bubble, keeps it out.
Sometimes, I wake up in the morning:
I’ve been snoring, people glowering.
I feel frazzled, all bedazzled,
kinda hyper, can’t decipher
what to do or how to do it:
Like I’m flying, no denying.
I’ll show you how to be able to touch the sun:
You’re capable! Its energy will fill you up,
just like you were a golden cup.
A cup, in fact, incredible, with energy renewable:
Its source, the sun, is non-stop power,
connecting you through every hour.
Can you picture if your mother, or your father,
or your friend, had a whole pile of emotions
that they didn’t comprehend?
And instead of doing something to connect
and make a change, they just yelled, or screamed,
or lied, or hid, or acted kind of strange?
Listen, you say? With eyes that don’t see?
I’m confused more and more: Just how can that be?
Yes, I see you’re confused by the eyes in my head,
so let’s talk intuition – It’s faster, instead!
